Jane Hamlyn is born in 1940 in London. She visits the Harrow College of Art. After this education she settled with her husband, the painter Ted Hamlyn, in the middle of England. She joins with her works in soda glaze a lot of exhibitions throughout Europe, including Keramiekmuseum Princessehof in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. Her creations can be found in many museum collections.

Work of the artist:

“My pots are made to celebrate the everyday rituals of domestic life: serving and offering, giving, receiving and sharing. I believe that functional pots have a unique role to play in the arena of the applied arts in that they provide audience participation. When handling a pot and considering ways to fill it, the user enters into and continues the creative life of the object. I like that idea. Saltglazing is a risky and an inherently unpredictable process which challenges the artist both physically and aesthetically. When it goes right, heat, flame and sodium combine to enhance what you have made and something extra happens, something beyond you. That, for me, is its fascination!” (text: hayclay).
