Jan Oosterman, ceramic slab with looming raven
Jan Oosterman uses his ceramic slabs as a bearer to incise or paint his artistic feelings. Three years before he died he created this powerful ceramic slab with supports that has been fired to a rose-red biscuit. Jan Oosterman is afraid for dying and is painting himself here as a dying person with next to him his wife. His dog Poen is floating without legs into heaven, in the air looming raven. The decoration is in matte engobes, except for the face of the woman which is in shiny glaze.
