Buthod-Garçon, Gisèle

Gisèle Buthod-Garçon is born on March 12, 1954 in Salon-de-Provence (southern France). Self-taught, Gisèle Buthod-Garçon started ceramics at a Rouen pottery, Catherine Matthieu, which enabled her to test ash glazes on grès. In the Provence, she went in several workshops in Salerne, then in a Nîmes pottery, learning the repetition of utilitarian forms, therefore the necessary control of throwing. Finally she was able to move to Manduel, building her own wood kiln, experimenting at low temperature before leaving for Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, in the beginning in the village and then outside, equipped of two Bell kilns heated with gas. She adopted firing at low temperatures, heavy and loose shapes, glazes to the rich tones of gold (text: www.ceramiques-contemporaines-sevres.fr ).
