Our art dealership has existed since 2000. We purchase and sell ceramics of high quality and rarity, mediate in the sale of collections, and make every effort to place our objects with passionate collectors and museums. In our online gallery we offer various areas of specialisation, ranging from the Art Nouveau period to post-war unique ceramics. The artists active in this period distanced themselves from traditional pottery practices and used clay to achieve what Willem Kloos described as “the most individual expression of the most individual emotion.” Depending on the character of the artist, this results in clean, spatial forms or expressive, sculptural shapes. There are also artists who explore new forms and glazes derived from the thrown vessel.
We purchase works, mediate between collectors, and aim to ensure that our objects find their way to enthusiastic collectors and museums. Over the past years, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the Jewish Historical Museum Amsterdam, the Historical Museum Rotterdam, Tiendschuur Tegelen, the Limburgs Museum Venlo, the Bonnefanten Museum Maastricht, the Dutch Tile Museum Otterlo, and the National Ceramics Museum Princessehof Leeuwarden have acquired artworks through Capriolus, as have many private collectors in the Netherlands and abroad.
The collection of Capriolus is highly versatile. The selection of objects stems from the founder Ger J.M. de Ree’s deep passion for ceramics. Over the years, the gallery has grown into a true family business. From the very beginning, the company has operated from Amersfoort, the city where the renowned Galerie Kapelhuis was located between 1960 and 1992. Capriolus Contemporary Ceramics began as an online gallery only, but in recent years it has also opened its doors every Friday for visits without obligation, for valuations, and for consulting the literature available in our library.
