Vibeke B. Krog is living and working in Julsø near Silkeborg (Jutland).
Artist-statement: “Throughout my career as a ceramist, I have always preferred red clay, which I use for all my work – whether unique functional pieces or pure sculptures. The red colour provides the perfect backdrop for painting with engobes, a technique I am very fond of and use frequently. To create a contrast to the matt, glazed surface of the engobe, I glaze selected areas. I fire my ceramics at 1184°C, which gives them good strength and density.
As well as a desire and ambition to create beautiful things, curiosity is a major driving force. Seeing ideas and sketches come to life, the surprise when two dimensions become three, and finally what the firing process contributes. A process that continually develops and inspires. In this way, over the years, my sculptures have evolved from being decorated vases with lids to sculptures and images in one.
I work with a clean, graphic style in both form and decoration. My sources of inspiration are many. Moorish architecture, the softness and texture found in the colours of the old frescoes, or the beautiful natural surroundings of my home and studio at
Member of the Danish Association of Craftsmen and Designers.
