    Bouke de Vries is born in Utrecht (The Netherlands) in 1960. Between 1979 and 1982 he follows the Design Academy in Eindhoven (NL), dept. 3-D Design. In England he visits the West Dean College in Chichester, training Conservation of Ceramics and follows from 1982 to 1983 lectures at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, dept. Textiles. Bouke de Vries works in London. Initially he was one of the leading restorators, but got fascinated by making images of broken objects and Chinese porcelain. In 2025/26, the Princessehof Ceramics Museum in Leeuwarden (NL) held a major retrospective exhibition of De Vries’ work, entitled: Bouke de Vries: UNBROKEN.

    His sculptures, still lifes and installations are visually captivating and rich in layered meanings. In his work, he incorporates childhood memories, tributes to his father and husband, and references to drug culture in the Netherlands and war.
