Hans de Jong (NL) – Huge so-called ‘Beemster’ bowl

Hans de Jong (NL) was during his stay at West-Beemster (1973-1985) very much inspired by the Beemster polder landscape. He has transferred that inspiration on a number of ceramic bowls. In this bowl the horizontal line forms the boundary between land and air, while the vertical line depicts a polder ditch. The bowl on a very small foot is hand built and is somewhat oval. Stoneware, matte glazes, top edge with two notches that accentuate the vertical blue line (ditch). Height 27 cm, diameter top 29.6/27.5 cm, artist’s stamp and 82. NL – Hans de Jong (NL) heeft tijdens zijn verblijf in West-Beemster (1973-1985) zich laten inspireren door het Beemster polderlandschap. Die inspiratie heeft hij overgebracht op een aantal keramische kommen. De horizontale lijn vormt de grens tussen land en lucht, terwijl de verticale streep een poldersloot verbeeldt. De kom op zeer kleine voet is met de hand opgebouwd en is enigszins ovaal. Steengoed, matte glazuren, bovenrand met twee inkepingen die de verticale blauwe (sloot) lijn accentueren.
