Gerlach Baas - ceramic double lidded box

Gerlach Baas (Van Beinum) is throwing since 1975 non-functional unica ceramic in his own studio in Heemstede near Haarlem. As a teacher/trainer he finished the education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 1978. The artist always is seeking for the balance between shape and enclosed space. But just during a short period (around 1988) Gerlach also has experimented with slabbuilt objects. But at the end he decided to specialize in thrown pots and plates. His ceramics are mostly made in stoneware and fired on 1280 degrees Celcius.

Here we are offering a double lidded ceramic box, inspired by Far Eastern cultures. The box is built up with rough slabs from chamotte clay with a fat feldspar glaze.
