Marc Janssens is born in Belgium in 1969. In 1986-87 he is trained in 'Plastische Kunsten' (plastic arts) at the SISA in Antwerp. Between 1989 and 1991 his training is continued at the St.-Lucas in Antwerp (applied graphics). Between 1996 and 1999 he was taught at the Academy voor Beeldende Kunsten in Mol (Sculpture and Ceramics). He worked as a graphic artist, silkscreen printer and teacher in creative techniques. Since a few years he is focusing fully on his passion sculpting. Its international fame is growing steadily and his work is regularly purchased by collectors from home and abroad.
Central theme is human figures. They seem to try to transcend their humanity with all kinds of mechanical tools, but get only naïever and are therefore more vulnerable. His characters struggle with themselves and the requirements of the society. By the recognisability his works grabs you, but thanks to the understated poetic atmosphere it is not too confrontational (text Museum De Tiendschuur, Tegelen NL).
